Measurements
Use a metal tape measure and get a buddy to help you. Someone to hold the other end of the tape will provide more accurate measurements.
Following is a list of measurements needed to complete your floor plan:

1. Width and length of your space.
2. Width of door ways and entry/archways.
3. Width and height of windows.
4. Width of fire place or woodstove area.
5. Walls: Measure left and right of windows, fire place, doorways, closets, built-ins, etc.

Furniture:
Provide width and depth of all furnishing in the room: sofa, club chairs, end tables, coffee tables, entertainment center, bookcases, desks, dining room table and chairs, bed, area rugs, TV, etc.

When measuring a chair or sofa be sure to measure the widest part of the sofa. For example from edge of arm to the other edge even though the cushion seats are smaller.
